When The Land Draws Back (2026)
Watercolour made from locally gathered earth pigments, seawater, rainwater and charcoal on paper.
Created using materials gathered from the Scottish landscape and processes shaped by the atmosphere, this work incorporates earth pigments from Girvan Beach, seawater, rainwater, wind, gravity, and temperature.
Natural forces acted as collaborators throughout the painting process, influencing how pigments moved, pooled, and settled across the surface. Rather than representing a landscape, the work emerges directly from it while recording various encounters with it. The soft, eroded forms evoke coastlines in retreat, reflecting the growing impact of rising sea levels and climate-driven erosion.
